Social Contribution Activities

Sponsorship of the Japan Canoe Federation

At Kyokuyo Co., Ltd., a general food company with a focus on fish, we engage in environmental conservation activities that advocate the importance of championing "the concept of coexisting with nature" and "the importance of water" to society. As part of these efforts, we have been sponsoring the activities of the Japan Canoe Federation as an official partner since April 2017.

As the title sponsor of the Canoe Slalom Japan Cup Kyokuyo Series (hosted by the Japan Canoe Federation), Kyokuyo conducts Clean River Activity after each event. These cleanup activities are carried out near the competition course with the participation of event organizers and any spectators who wish to take part.

Canoe Slalom Categories

Canoe slalom is a sport in which athletes navigate a series of gates set up on a flowing river, passing through them in order going downstream, while competing in both speed and precision. If an athlete fails to pass through a gate, or passes a gate in the wrong direction, penalty points are added to their time. The athlete with the lowest total time wins.

During the lecture

Group discussions

These outreach classes are held at kindergartens, elementary schools, and junior high schools across Japan, with employees and staff from fisheries companies and organizations working together to get children interested in the fishing industry and the nutritional value of seafood. The aim is to promote fish consumption and boost demand for marine products.

In this class, conducted for 141 second-year junior high school students, employees from Kyokuyo gave a lecture on the theme, "Let's eat fish, not waste it."

After the lecture, students engaged in group discussions on the theme, "How can I help to realize the SDGs, and what is there that only I can do to achieve this?" with employees from Kyokuyo joining each group.

The Kyokuyo Group will continue to advance initiatives like this outreach class as part of our ongoing efforts to work toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), guided by our corporate philosophy, "Contributing to a Healthy and Happy Lifestyle and Food Culture."

Special Lecture at Kagawa Education Institute of Nutrition

As part of our sustainability-focused business activities, we conduct special lectures at the Kagawa Education Institute of Nutrition, where many students go on to work for food-related companies after graduation.

In these sessions, we introduce real-world practices and on-site conditions in the fisheries and food product industries.

To date, we have offered lectures themed "From Catch to Table," covering the history of the fisheries industry, the global status of marine products, the latest aquaculture technologies, and the manufacturing, processing, and product development of foods made primarily from seafood.

The students who participate in the lectures gain a deeper understanding of the importance of conserving the marine environment, making effective use of fishery resources, and Kyokuyo's commitment to promoting a sustainable fisheries industry.
